On Wednesday morning, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araguchi and China’s foreign minister Wang held talks to review the latest regional and international developments and discuss important aspects of bilateral relations.
Araghchi thanked the Chinese government for its warm hospitality and the successful organization of the Shanghai Cooperation Agency (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. He also expressed his gratitude for China’s clear stance as the swivel chair for the SCO by strongly condemning Israel and American attacks on Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as Israel and American attacks on the blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law.
Emphasizing the historical link between two ancient civilizations of Iran and China, Araguchi reaffirmed the Iranian government’s firm commitment to strengthening comprehensive strategic cooperation with China based on mutual respect and trust.
He also thanked China for its principled and constructive position at the International Forum, particularly the UN Security Council, for condemning Israel and the US attacks on Iran, and particularly dangerous attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities. Araghchi updated his counterparts on the latest situation following these attacks, highlighting the responsibility of the UN Security Council and all governments in favour of peace and stability in the region and the world.
China’s foreign minister praised Iran’s goodwill and his responsible and wise approach to prevent further escalation in the region. He repeatedly held China’s firm support for Iran’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and national security, and highlighted China’s principled opposition to unilateral opposition, coercion and use of force, supporting diplomacy and dialogue to resolve the conflict.
He further emphasized the importance of ongoing bilateral and multilateral efforts to avoid further escalations, and confirmed China’s preparation to support this point at the international forum, particularly the UN Security Council.
During the meeting, the two also reviewed the status of joint agreements and projects in various economic and trade sectors and discussed ways to expand the cooperatives.
