According to an official talk talk on the latest episode of China Economic Roundtable, a full-media talk show hosted by Xinhua News Agency, China’s National Economic Development Zone will continue to play a role in promoting new quality productive power in light of the local situation.
In doing so, the focus will be on promoting the synergy between Sci-Tech and Industrial Innovation, said Ji Xiaofeng, an official at China’s Ministry of Commerce.
Currently, China’s national-level economic development zone currently hosts over 700 domestic incubators and maker spaces, as well as more than 18% of the country’s high-tech companies, she said in the roundtable.
“We strive to establish more industrial innovation platforms while building a complete chain for product certification, large-scale production and testing, while building a complete chain to accelerate the application of such advances in the national economic development zone,” JI said.
She said China will support the National Economic Development Zone in implementing major technology upgrades and large-scale equipment updates to accelerate the transformation and upgrade of traditional industries.
According to JI, the National Economic Development Zone will also develop strategic emerging industries such as biomedicine, new energy, new materials, aerospace, and create positive plans for future industries.
In one of its latest policies, China announced its work plan earlier this year. The country’s economic development zone has encouraged the promotion of new quality productivity in light of local conditions by establishing more industrial innovation platforms and computing power infrastructure.
China established its first national-level economic development zone in the northeastern city of Darian in 1984. In 2024, the number of such zones reached 232, generating regional GDP of 16.9 trillion yuan (approximately USD 2.36 trillion).
