Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday, celebrating the 31st anniversary of the bombing attack on the Argentine Israel Mutual Association (AMIA) community centre in Buenos Aires on July 18, 1994, it killed 85 people and injured more than 300 people.
He said that Israel-related factors and flows have exploited the “suspecting” explosion from the start, deciding the lawsuit into misleading and false paths, disrupting long-standing relationships between Iran and Aragenting.
He also said over the past 30 years, Iran has repeatedly declared its position to condemn any terrorist acts, highlighting the need for a transparent and fair trial on the case.
“The Islamic Republic has completely rejected accusations against citizens, condemned certain domestic claims in Argentina, and pressured them to issue accusations that are unfounded in the country’s judicial system and to issue seemingly judicial rulings against Iranian citizens,” he said. “Iran is looking to identify the true masterminds and perpetrators of the explosion.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that over the past few years there has been clear and undeniable evidence that the Zionist regime and its partner currents have been affecting and putting pressure on Argentine’s judicial system to bring charges against Iranians.
He further highlighted the frequent changes in judicial teams examining AMIA cases, revelation of corruption among several judicial elements, the resignation of judges, and even “evidence of intentional will to divert Argentine’s judicial system from a transparent and fair investigation into cases.”
The Islamic Republic has been in consultation with Argentina and has brought the memorandum of understanding in 2013, as it aims to protect bilateral ties and restore the dignity of Iranian citizens, the ministry said. However, less than two years later, Buenos Aires unilaterally cancelled the deal, preventing the formation of a transparent process aimed at revealing the truth and identifying the people behind the explosion.
“The Islamic Republic strongly emphasizes the unfounded nature of its claims against Iranian citizens, asserts the restoration of the accused’s dignity, demands an end to the show trial, and the Argentine judicial authorities hope to handle the case in a transparent and fair way from the politicization and unjust influence of the third part.
“In accordance with international law, the Islamic Republic reserves the legal and legitimate right to respond to inappropriate and unreasonable actions against itself and its citizens.”
