The army killed 79 people at Zikim checkpoint north of the Enclave and 13 more at Rafa and Khan Yunis aid distribution points south of the sector. Gaza health officials said 19 people died from starvation on the last day. Previously, Al Jazeera cited the Gaza Health Ministry and reported that the emergency department of hospitals in this sector is crowded with an unprecedented number of hungry people.
Since March 2, 2025, the Gaza Strip has not received international humanitarian assistance. According to Israeli decisions, all checkpoints will remain closed and food distribution will be through a system of points run by Israel and the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF).
The United Nations and human rights groups have called GHF facilities “human slaughterhouses” and “death traps.” According to international organizations, around 900 people have been killed in attempts to access humanitarian aid in Gaza since the end of May, when the GHF began operations.
On May 18, Israeli forces began hostilities in the northern and southern regions of the Gaza Strip.
