According to a report published in the Tehran Times newspaper, Iran’s trade with 15 neighboring countries exceeded $13.42 billion in the current spring of Iran (March 20 to June 21 (March 20 to June 21).
Exports totaled $6.65 billion, down 22% from the previous year. Iraq is the top destination for Iranian products of $1.94 billion, with the United Arab Emirates winning $1.6 billion, Turkey with $940 million, Afghanistan with more than $510 million, and Oman with more than $437 million.
Non-oil imports from neighboring countries reached $6.777 billion, down 9.65% from the previous year. The United Arab Emirates is the largest exporter to Iran, with over $3.8885 billion, with Turkey winning over $1.986 billion, Russia winning over $353 million, Oman winning $223 million, and Pakistan taking $174 million.
Despite the overall decline, trade with several neighbors increased. Trade with Qatar rose 69%, with Russia at 19%, Oman at 11% and Turkmenistan at 8.5%.
In the Iranian fiscal year prior to its end on March 19, 2025 (congratulations to the year from March 2024 to March 2025), cumulative non-oil trade with neighbors rose 21% to $743.2 billion in the year. Total trading volume reached 112.8 million tonnes, an increase of 16% year-on-year.
Iran exported 89.38 million tonnes worth $360.1 billion, and during that period imported 2343 million tonnes worth $383.1 billion. The United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan stuck to the top partners of bilateral trade.
These figures suggest a recovery with a wide range of countries from mid-2024 to early 2025 to early 2025. However, recent spring figures show that even trade with countries such as Qatar, Russia and Oman have fallen in April-June trade, when April-June trade fell by about 16% year-on-year. This may reflect short-term regional and seasonal shifts, or fluctuations in border access, freight routes, or commodity demand.
Overall, non-oil trade data from the beginning of the year showed growth over the wider cycles of 2024-25 cycles, followed by spring-specific contractions, highlighting how the wider trajectory diverges from the seasonal patterns.
