Local Russian media reported that 47-91 millimeters (1.9-3.6 inches) of rain had rained across various administrative territories overnight and morning, with the highest total recorded in Zelenograd. According to Menduza, the monthly average for July is 85 millimeters (3.3 inches).
Meteorologists say the rain is expected to continue in Moscow until noon. The gust of wind can reach 12-15 meters per second (27-34 mph), and thunderstorms may be seen in some areas.
Torrential rains have flooded roads and underground passages in both Moscow and the surrounding area. In the Naro Fominsky district, the bridge collapsed, blocking access to three villages. Traffic was temporarily suspended on the embankment of Shellepikhinskaya in Moscow. By evening, traffic jams are expected on highways that continue from central Moscow and the city.
The bad weather encouraged residents to stay indoors if possible. Anyone who had to go outside was advised to take caution and avoid evacuation under the trees. Authorities also encouraged muscovite to take the subway instead of driving, the report added.
