Iraqi Parliament Chairman Mahmoud al-Mashhadani commented during a meeting with Iranian parliament visitors in Baghdad on Monday.
Al-Masihadani pointed out that the victory was a key achievement for Iran, according to Iraqi media.
Praising the Iranian state’s resilience during the 12-day attack, the speaker said Iranians are a source of pride for the Iraqi people.
“If Iran is attacked, Iraq will stand on its side,” the top lawmaker said, adding that the two countries are neighbours who share common policies and interests, and that they will emphasize the importance of strengthening bilateral relations.

Iraqi speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani (c) met a delegation of the Iranian parliament in Baghdad on July 20, 2025.
Al-Masihadani condemned the Israeli regime’s use of Iraq’s airspace, describing it as a violation of national sovereignty and a violation of Iraq’s red line.
He said Israeli invasions have been completely rejected by Iraq.
Israel attacked Iran on June 13 with an unattacked attack, assassinated military commanders and nuclear scientists on targeted strikes, and killed civilians in air raids in residential areas. On June 22nd, the United States also joined the war, bombing three Iranian nuclear sites. The war was suspended on June 24th after the Tel Aviv regime demanded a ceasefire after a retaliatory missile strike by Iran.
