The Kremlin said Russian negotiators flew to Turkey on Wednesday to negotiate peace with Ukraine.
Russia lowered its expectations for a breakthrough at the meeting. Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelenki said this week that a partial focus should be placed on preparing for the summit between himself and President Vladimir Putin.
“Of course, no one expects an easy path. Naturally, this is a very difficult conversation. The projects (on each side) are the exact opposite,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
The Wallings held two lectures in Istanbul on May 16th and June 2nd, which exchanged the bodies of thousands of prisoners and dead soldiers.
But they created breakthroughs towards ceasefires and reconciliation, ending almost three and a half years of war.
Last week, US President Donald Trump threatened fierce new sanctions against Russia and the countries that buy its exports unless a peace agreement is reached within 50 days.
However, three sources close to the Kremlin told Reuters that Putin, who is not at all ultimatum, would continue to fight in Ukraine until the West engages his terms for peace.
