The two top diplomats have strengthened cooperation between Moscow and Kabul in the trade and economic spheres and emphasized mutual interest in strengthening regional security, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after a telephone conversation with the country’s top diplomats.
“In keeping with the enduring tradition of friendship between the Russians and Afghan people and good neighbors, the parties emphasized their mutual interest in building cooperation between the two parties, the trade economy and the humanitarian realm.
On July 3, 2025, Russia accepted Moscow’s new Afghan ambassador qualification and became the first country to recognize the Taliban government.
Russia believes that official recognition of the Taliban in Afghanistan will accelerate the development of bilateral and constructive cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Oberchuk had said his country would develop economic cooperation with Afghanistan, with trade revenue totaling $323 million at the end of last year, the report added.
