The letter was addressed to the United Nations, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and many major multilateral environmental agencies. It raised serious concerns about targeting ecologically sensitive zones, energy facilities, oil reserves and areas close to industrial infrastructure. She warned that such attacks could lead to chemical leaks, air and water pollution, irreversible ecosystem destruction and public health crisis. Ansari called for a rapid international response to illegal activities with widespread ecological consequences, and urged global institutions to officially denounce environmentally sensitive local targets.
The Israeli regime unleashed the war with Iran last month, with American support, assassinated several top-ranked military commanders and scientists, marching hundreds of civilians, including women and children.
“The global environmental community must speak in one voice,” Ansari wrote, “it is a common international obligation to prevent environmental harm during war.” The authorities further reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to international law and said it has sovereignty to protect its people, territory and the environment.
