The head of the Islamic Railway announced that preparations have been made for the launch of the Tehran-Herat train next month, and negotiations are underway in Tajikistan regarding the establishment of a railway route to the cities of Melv and Dushanbe.
He said these efforts are being made to create stronger connections with the country and develop rail tourism.
At the beginning of March, the first Tehranvan international train departed from the Iranian capital and resumed service after a five-year suspension.
The train, which has a capacity of 280 passengers, departed from Tehran, stopped in Tabriz, and eventually reached the Turkish city of Van, the IRNA reported.
Customs and passport procedures for Iranian travelers will be carried out at Raj station before the train crosses to Turkey, with Turkish locomotives taking over at Kapicoy station, followed by Turkish customs and passport checks.
Departures from Tehran to Van are scheduled for Sunday and Wednesday at 12:30pm, with the return from Van to Tehran on Monday and Thursday.
The journey takes approximately 22 hours, including customs procedures at the Razi and Kapıköy border departments. The train service is operated using a four-bed Surry Sleeper vehicle that accommodates 280 passengers.
Tickets can be purchased from the Raja Rail Transportation Company website www.raja.ir, other certified online platforms, or from the designated ticket sales office.
