President Masuud Pezeshkian emphasizes the need to strengthen relations with his neighbours, including Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the coastal Persian Gulf countries.
In an unannounced visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, President Pezeschkian said improving relations with neighboring countries could lead to major results. He urged diplomats to adopt a more proactive approach in their efforts.
He said that Ayatollah, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, had Ali Khamenei seyed, and that Iranians must prepare to protect their country, put diplomacy on the agenda and that if the country lives in peace, it would be far better than being involved in war.
The president also mentioned the Israeli regime’s targeting Evin prison, saying certain states are talking about human rights but will defend the “embarrassing” attacks by the Israeli regime.
He said that while some argued that he would defend human rights, he created a heartbreaking image in Gaza that humans cannot see. While European countries and human rights groups talk about humanity, how can they justify brutal operations against the people of Gaza, Pezeschkian said.
The president further mentioned the Iranian domestic situation, saying officials are also working to strengthen their connections with people, listen to complaints as much as possible and address the issues.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff for their 24-hour efforts in implementing foreign policy and diplomacy in the Islamic Republic.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Pezeshkian pointed to the efforts of Iranian diplomatic equipment during the war for 12 days, saying that the outcome of these efforts was that almost all international organisations except the Security Council and the United Nations condemned the invasion.
Pezeschkian further said that the Israeli regime had launched a war that was fundamentally illegal in accordance with all international norms and laws. Unfortunately, in today’s world, such aggressive behavior is often justified by great powers, he added.
The president also said the Islamic Republic will expand appropriate interactions, particularly with members of the BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Agency and the Eurasian Economic Union. Iran will coordinate its actions with countries such as Russia, China and other partners, and will continue the process with European countries and others based on wisdom, dignity and convenience, he emphasized.
