The state broadcaster CCTV reported on the morning of July 27 that two people died and two went missing in Hebei Province.
China’s Water Resources Ministry has issued flood warnings targeting 11 states and regions, including Beijing and nearby Hebei, due to flooding from small and medium-sized rivers and mountain rapids.
Floods and landslides have affected many villages in the capital’s Miyun district, and the country town of Fenziya has been the most severely affected in some villages, cutting power and communications, CCTV said. Beijing News Radio reported on July 27, and more than 3,000 people have been transferred from the region.
Flows to the Miyun Reservoir have increased, reaching a record peak of 6,550 cubic meters per second, Beijing officials said.
According to a weather station in Beijing, rain is expected to intensify in most parts of the capital, with cumulative rainfall reaching more than 100mm over six hours in some nearby areas. He said lowland areas are prone to flooding.
