During his weekly press conference on Monday, Esmail Baghihai pointed to Friday consultations with three major European powers, members of the 2015 nuclear deal known as Istanbul’s JCPOA, and said the talks would continue.
“Iran’s negotiations with European parties have become clear and specific subjects. They lift sanctions and issues related to the nuclear program. Every negotiation naturally has two aspects. To bring about unrelated issues by some Western countries only causes confusion and inconsistency in their position.”
Regarding media reports regarding the extension of resolution 2231, he said the nuclear issue and lifting sanctions had been discussed at the Istanbul Conference. We have repeatedly emphasized and informed these countries of our position, highlighting that there is no legal basis for European parties to use snapback mechanisms. ”
In response to another question regarding the JCPOA snapback mechanism that European powers threatened to cause it, he said, “thought this was ineffective and emphasized that the European party questioned the effectiveness of Resolution 2231 (by threat).
“We will continue to be members of the NPT on the condition that we enjoy our rights, including rich rights under this Convention,” he added.
Baghaei also said, “There are no plans yet to hold consultations with the US.”
Elsewhere, an Iranian spokesman responded to a journalist’s question about the development of the South Caucasus, revealing that Iran’s position on the issue remains unchanged and has not accepted changes to geographical boundaries.
He emphasized the need for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the importance of signing a peace agreement. He also said that extending the peace process could lead to increased tensions in the region. He also called on both countries to seriously pursue the issue of peace.
