According to the local Air Traffic Service, the British Aircraft Services have recovered technical issues that have caused significant delays in aircraft leaving UK airspace.
Flights at airports across the UK, including Heathrow, Gatwick and Edinburgh, were grounded while technical issues were being investigated.
The National Air Transport Service apologised for the delay caused as it worked to resolve the issue.
“Our engineers restored the affected system this afternoon,” Natt said in a statement.
“We are in the process of resuming normal operations in the London area.
“We are working closely with our airline and airport customers to keep the disruption to a minimum.”
Gatwick Airport said technical issues are affecting all outbound flights across the UK.
Several flights scheduled to arrive at UK airports have also been forced to implement or detour holding patterns elsewhere.
