Citing medical sources, the Gaza government’s media office said Wednesday that 51 people were killed and more than 648 people were injured by Israeli forces.
It reported that 20 more people seeking assistance were killed in the Israeli attack near Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Yunis.
Meanwhile, 15 more people were killed in Israeli air attacks across Gaza. Palestinian photojournalist Ibrahim Mahmoud Hajaj, 35, was one of the victims of the occupational government strike in Gaza city.
The fresh Israeli attack is as aid agencies and health officials warn about a rapid rise in Gaza hunger, especially among children and seniors.
Euro Med Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med) said that around 1,200 elderly Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip over the past two months due to Israel’s hunger policy, malnutrition and lack of medical care.
“The actual death toll can be significantly higher,” he added, noting that hundreds of elderly people arrive daily at hospitals and primary care centers in extreme fatigue in search of nutrient fluids.
According to the United Nations, Gaza needs at least 500-600 aid trucks per day to cover its basic humanitarian needs. However, only 269 trucks have entered the territory that has been sieged over the past four days.
Adnan Abu Hasna, a spokesman for UNRWA, a UN agency of Palestinian refugees, said:
Israel unleashed the Gaza massacre on October 7, 2023, after Hamas Resistance Group carried out historic operations against occupying groups in retaliation for the regime’s intensified abuses against the Palestinians.
The Tel Aviv regime has failed to achieve its declared purpose of removing Hamas and releasing all prisoners of Gaza.
Large starvation is also holding Gaza due to the blockade of Israeli territory.
