In a post on X, the United Nations said that one million women and girls are hungry for Gaza. “This horrible situation is unacceptable and must end.”
According to Press TV, the United Nations continues to seek out life-saving assistance for all women and girls, an immediate ceasefire, and release of all prisoners.
Israel announced a partial suspension in airstrikes last Sunday to allow more aid to Gaza, following international condemnation of widespread hunger and malnutrition deaths related to aid restrictions.
However, humanitarian organizations have reported that aid entering coastal enclaves is severely insufficient, warning that without a large amount of food, deaths from hunger will continue to increase.
The integrated food security stage (IPC) is a global hunger watchdog body that confirms that hunger thresholds are above in parts of Gaza, particularly in Gaza city. The situation is described as a “worst-case scenario” that unfolds in besieged territory.
The World Health Organization reports that 63 of the 74 malnutrition-related deaths recorded in Gaza this year occurred in July alone, including 38 adults under the age of five and 24 children.
Gaza’s health ministry reported on Sunday that the total number of deaths related to starvation has risen to 175, including 93 children.
Human rights groups are putting pressure on Israel to stop using starvation as a weapon in war.
Despite claims that there is no starvation in Gaza, Israeli agency Cogat, which oversees Gaza border crossings, has revealed that between March and June, 56,000 tons of food has not been permitted in Gaza, which is less than a quarter of the territorial minimum needs for that period.
