Iran’s first vice president will meet and discuss with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Turkmenistan officials and other senior officials from the country attending the summit.
Earlier on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeir Bhagihai said the first vice president would travel to Turkmenistan to attend the UN’s third summit on inland developing countries.
He noted that this is the third UN summit on the subject, highlighting its importance to Iran.
“Of the 31 or 32 inland regions, eight are connected to Iran, and seven of these eight are members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which highlights Iran’s important role as a communication bridge between neighboring landlocked countries,” Baghaei says.
The summit will focus on drafting a 10-year development programme for inland developing countries, the spokesman noted.
