Iran and Kazakhstan have agreed to expand transport cooperation and create a joint roadmap to increase regional connectivity, particularly through the eastern routes of the north-south corridors.
Iran’s Roads Minister and Urban Development Minister Farzane Sadeg accompanied First Vice President Mohammad Reza Alev to hold a meeting with Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport Narran Saurangbayev at the 3rd UN Conference on Inland Developing Countries in Abaza Port, Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, Sadegh emphasized the importance of accelerating transportation projects and worked with regional countries to highlight the eastern branch of the north-south transport corridor, led by Kazakhstan.
She called for the prompt implementation of multilateral cooperation documents signed by Deputy Transport Ministers from Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
Both sides discussed strengthening multimodal transport links and proposed drafting a comprehensive five-year plan for bilateral transport cooperation. The initiative was welcomed by Sauranbayev, who reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s openness to Iran’s flights.
The Minister further agreed to urgently assess the possibility of transport in the Caspian Sea. Kazakhstan’s proposal for a joint transport project similar to the “Kaspian Bridge” initiative with Azerbaijan was welcomed by Iran, and both sides agreed to review the details.
