“Magnitude: 6.4. Intensity of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (preliminary estimate): 3,” the statement said.
According to the USGS RAS, the latest aftershock occurred at 10:35pm local time, 213 km from the region’s capital. Sources were recorded at a depth of almost 39 km in the Pacific Ocean.
Aftershocks were one of the most powerful after major earthquakes. Within 20 minutes, four more aftershocks continued, in sizes of 4.8-5.7.
On July 30th, a 8.8-sized earthquake, Russia’s strongest since 1952, was attacked on the coast of Kamchatka.
After the earthquake, six Kamchatka volcanoes were active, including Eurasia’s best Kraichevsky, or Kraichevskayasopka. Scientists predict that ashes emissions could reach a height of 12 km in the coming days. Volcanic ash is observed in the air in the village of klyuchi, just near Krichevsky. The head of the UST-Kamchatsky district is urging residents not to go out unless absolutely necessary.
