The Chief of Army Chief of Staff (COAS) of Syed Asim Munir has officially visited the United States and is engaged in high-level meetings with senior political and military leadership and members of the Pakistan diaspora, the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
In Tampa, COAS attended the resignation ceremony of General US Central Command (CENTCOM), retired commander General Michael E. Kurira, showing commander’s assumptions by Admiral Brad Cooper.
According to ISPR, the Army Secretary praised General Kurira’s leadership and his role in strengthening bilateral military cooperation. He also expressed his confidence in continuing collaboration to convey his best wishes to Admiral Cooper and address the shared security challenges.
During the visit, COAS met with the chairman’s co-director, General Dan Kane, to discuss issues of mutual professional interests and invite him to visit Pakistan. In his side job, he also interacted with defence chiefs from friendly countries.
In an interactive session with the Pakistan diaspora, the Army Chief urged foreigners to be confident in the country’s future and contribute to attracting investment.
The Diaspora reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Pakistan’s progress and development.
This marks the second official visit of the Army Secretary in two months since May worked with India.
The visit reached the peak this week when Trump said he would impose a 50% tariff on exports to India amid growing tensions between the US and India. Trump has left some wiggling room to sign a deal, but his violent comments about India have hindered decades of push by the US to bring the world’s most populous country to justice as a counterweight to China.
Trump this month denounced India as a “dead” economy with little concern for Ukrainians killed in the fight against Russia. Modi and Trump have not been chatting since their June call, but the Indian leader on Friday spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and invited him to visit later this year.
