Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will hold a meeting at Elmendorf Richardson’s joint base in northern Anchorage, Alaska on Friday, marking Trump’s first in-person meeting since his re-election and his final summit in 2019.
Russia has set a clear stand during US-Russia talks in Alaska, and a lot has already been done on the issue during the visit of US Presidential Special Mission Steve Witkov, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.
“We don’t plan ahead. We know that we have a debate, a clear and understandable position. We outline that. There’s already a lot going on during Steve Witkov’s visit.
Former Russian Prime Minister Sergei Stefasin says there is no alternative to face-to-face diplomacy.
“It is important for the president to personally present his position on Trump,” Stefasin told Sputnik. He reminded me that Putin and Trump have good personal chemistry – something Donald Trump himself emphasized.
Handshakes and in-person meetings carry more weight than notes and phone calls, Stefasin noted.
“Next, as I understand it, an encounter with the Ukrainian side will be arranged, although I have always been questioned about Zelensky’s legitimacy,” EX-PM said.
