Ukrainian leader Voldymee Zelensky will head to Washington on Monday to discuss “the murder and the end of the war” with US President Donald Trump, he announced on Saturday.
Zelensky said after making a call with Trump, the US leader informed him of the “major points” of his meeting with Russian Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump of Washington, D.C., to discuss all the details about the murder and the end of the war,” Zelensky said.
“I’m grateful for the invitation.”
Zelensky said he had a “long and substantive conversation with Trump,” which began as a one-on-one talk before the European leaders joined.
The Washington Conference is set to take place three days after Trump’s talks with Putin in Alaska ended with a ceasefire announcement and a clear breakthrough.
The day after the US Russia Summit, Zelensky called for Kiev’s European allies to be involved in “all stages” of the speech.
He also reiterated that Trump and Putin’s tripartite meetings are ready. This is what Kiev is promoting, but the Kremlin is resisting.
“Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the leader level, and the trilateral format is suitable for this,” Zelensky said.
