Last week, Velayati met Vahan Kostanyan, the Armenian vice minister who coordinates bilateral relations with Iran, and held discussions.
During the meeting, Verayati stressed that Iran cannot withstand its opposition to its security.
At the start of the meeting, Costagnyaan explained and reported on the recent developments in the region and negotiations held in Washington, highlighting the historical relations between the two countries and the need to maintain good neighbours.
He also said, “We are deeply committed to our friendly ties with Iran and value these historical connections.”
Belayati welcomed the expansion of bilateral cooperation, saying, “Iran’s Islamic Republic always wants lasting peace and security among its neighbors, and emphasized more than any other country to establish peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. During my tenure in the region and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I have put my best efforts in this direction.”
Referring to practical measures for Iranian peace, an advisor to the Iranian leader said, “We have thus sacrificed martyrs, including the martyrs of the families of many Iranian diplomats who died when missiles crashed into planes during the Karabakh War.
He continued to explain the principles of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressing that “the fate of this region should be determined solely by the region’s countries.”
