Advisor to Prime Minister Mohammed Shea Al Sudani, Prime Minister Hussein Alawi, told the official Iraqi news agency (INA) on Sunday that a US-led troop aimed at fighting Takfili Desh’s terrorist groups will withdraw next month under an agreement between the Baghdad government and coalition members.
According to Alawi, the move is in line with the Iraqi government’s plans to strengthen the Arab state’s military and strengthen the transition to a bilateral defense partnership.
“The Iraqi government is working on a programme that builds its military and ends the mission of the coalition, but has shifted its relationship with the Allied to a stable bilateral defense arrangement led by political, economic and cultural ties,” Alawi pointed out.
The Prime Minister’s advisor outlined a two-stage timeline agreed by the Iraq and the Western Military Alliance, and outlined the first withdrawal phase scheduled for September 2025 and the complete set for next September.
He said Iraq will continue its timeless counselling and capacity building partnerships with international allies.
Arawy emphasized that this strategy demonstrated the government’s commitment to forming lasting partnerships across various sectors, particularly in security. At the same time, we recognize the continued efforts of the Joint Military Commission to promote discussion on the mission of the Union.
“The advisors emphasized that progressive withdrawal would mark Iraq’s strategic transition to establish normal relations with the US and Allies, moving from a multilateral military framework to a bilateral security agreement.
“It will restore Iraq-Iraqi cooperation with the strategic framework agreement that existed in Dash before Mosul’s collapse in 2014,” he said.
