According to the statement, the earthquake was felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, KP Peshawar, Swat, Chitral and Abotabad.
A PMD press release said the earthquake occurred at PKT at 10:20am. Its epicenter was the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, 190km deep.
Punjab’s Regional Disaster Management Bureau reported that the earthquake was also felt in the provincial sectors of Bahawalpur, Dela Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwara, Gujrat, Lahore, Martin, Sahiwar and Salgoda.

Pakistan falls into three main tectonic plates: Arabic, EuroAsia and India, creating five seismic zones in the country. The intersection of multiple fault lines means that structural movements remain frequently occurring in the region.
The Hindu Kush region is recognized as one of the world’s most active seismic zones, lying at the junction of Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which are at the junction of Indian and Eurasian collision plates, according to US collisions.
This seismic activity is attributed to subduction-related processes and slab divisions under the Hindu Kushpamir region, and has become part of the broader Himalayan seismic belt that has produced several destructive earthquakes in Afghanistan, Pakistan and North India.
The 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the surrounding area at the beginning of the month, causing panic, shaking buildings, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.
