Speaking at a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian said he has not seen restrictions on Iran’s expansion of ties with Belarus, highlighting the need for unilateral cooperation and collaboration to overcome its harmful effects.
The Iranian president emphasized Belarus as a key country in the strategic Eurasian region and a trusted partner for Iran. He mentioned the comprehensive roadmap for cooperation between the two countries (2023-2026).
Referring to the productive discussion with President Lukashenko, he said they had reached an important agreement covering bilateral relations, regional development and international issues, and made it from many shared perspectives.
According to the Iranian president’s official website, President Pezeshkian acknowledged the positive interaction between officials and ministers of both countries over the past year, citing the recent Joint Economic Committee held in Minsk. He expressed his hope that the agreements signed during this visit in various economic, cultural and legal fields would further strengthen their cooperation.
The President outlined key areas of mutual benefits, including customs, co-investment, increased volumes of goods, increased passenger volume, addressing challenges faced by the private sector, and ensuring the supply of necessary goods to both sides. He also expressed optimism that these efforts would lead to strengthening trade between the two countries.
Regarding media and public relations, he said Iran is being prepared for more effective collaborations to highlight their history, culture and mutual capabilities and present the true image of both countries.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening regional economic cooperation and the importance of emerging economic structures such as the Eurasian Economic Union, BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Agency. He noted that both countries need cooperation to overcome unilateral and harmful effects.
Pezeshkian also expressed his gratitude for Belarus’ strong stance on the Israeli regime and the US attack on Iran, denounced its attack on peaceful nuclear sites as a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.
