Iran’s permanent UN ambassador Amir Sayed Irabani made his speech while attending a security council meeting with Syria on Thursday.
Irabani has said Iran has defied attempts to undermine Syria’s sovereignty, changing its demographic composition and fragmenting its territory, Press TV reported.
He said, “The Security Council should not ignore the ongoing unstable actions of the Syrian Israeli regime.”
“Repeated attacks by Israel have caused civilian casualties, destroyed critical infrastructure and increased tensions in the region,” he said.
“We will decisively reject any attempts to undermine Syria’s sovereignty, change the composition of its demographics and fragment its territory,” he said.
He immediately ended Israel’s occupation of Syria-Golan, calling it a violation of international law, the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions.
Irabani also warned of the persistence of Syrian terrorism.
The Iranian ambassador said Daesh and al-Qaeda will continue to destabilise Syria and the entire region, seriously undermining regional and international peace and security.
He emphasized that the only sustainable path forward for Syria is a Syrian-led, Syrian-owned political process to protect the legitimate rights and aspirations of all Syrians.
Since Assad’s expulsion, the Damascus regime has been effectively controlled by Heiat Taharil al-Sham (HTS), led by Abu Muhammad al-Jolani.
Rather than resisting the ongoing Israeli invasion, HTS’ overtures of inaction and normalization against Tel Aviv have encouraged Israeli forces to strengthen their profession and bombing campaigns.
