Weldkamp, a member of Centre Wright’s new Social Contract Party, said on Friday he failed to meet the agreement on “meaningful measures” and repeatedly faced resistance from his colleagues to sanctions that have already been in force.
His efforts included imposing a ban on far-right Israeli ministers Bezarel Sumotrich and Itamar Ben Gwil, citing their role in inciting settlers’ violence against Palestinians, according to Al Jazeera.
Veldkamp also revoked three licenses for Navy ship components, warning of Gaza’s “advanced condition” and “risk of undesirable end use.”
“We see what is happening on the ground in Gaza, the attack on Gaza city, and what is happening in the West Bank, conflict settlement E1 and the decision to build in East Al-Kud,” Verdkamp told reporters.
His departure leaves the Netherlands without a foreign minister. Following his resignation, the ministers of all new social contracts and the state secretary confirmed their support for Verdkamp and resigned from the caretaker government in solidarity, the report added.
The Hamas movement in the statement thanked the Dutch minister for the move.
