In a post on the X account on Saturday, Velayati mentioned the Qur’an reference to Dhul-Qarnayn, noting that prominent scholars such as Allameh Tabatabaei have identified the figure as Cyrus The Great.
He further emphasized that, according to the work of Greek historian and geographer Herodotus, Cyrus would establish fortresses in the Caucasus region to protect Iran from nomadic tribal invasions, thereby strengthening the region’s permanent role as a protective frontier.
In an interview with Tasnim on August 9, Verayati dismissed the idea of the so-called Zanjur Corridor, designed to connect the Republic of Azerbaijan with Naktiban, warning that implementation of corridor plans would hinder the safety of the South Caucus.
He also emphasized that Iran would prevent the creation of American corridors in the Caucasus region, regardless of whether Moscow joins Tehran or not.
