According to a read-out of a phone call posted on the Iranian president’s official website, President Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the Alaska talks and hoped that the negotiations would contribute to a quick resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
The Iranian president has also pledged to personally oversee the rapid construction of the Rasht Astara Railway, which plays a key role in linking the Persian Gulf to Russia and Central Asia.
Furthermore, Pezeschkian acknowledged the importance of regional and international institutions such as the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and especially BRICS as a platform for strengthening cooperation with Russia and China.
Additionally, he referenced his recent visit to Armenia and received assurances from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that Iran’s concerns were fully taken into account in the discussions and agreements between Azerbaijan and the US. Pezeshkian proposed a 3+3 dialogue framework involving Iran and Russia as a more effective mechanism for addressing issues in the Caucasus region.
In response, Putin outlined the key points and consequences of recent negotiations with Alaska US President Donald Trump, noting that positive outcomes have been achieved that could lead to the resolution of ongoing conflicts in Ukraine.
Putin also said he is improving relations between Moscow and Tehran constructively and steadily, highlighting an 11% increase in trade between the two countries in the first half of this year.
He also mentions progress in mutual projects, including satisfactory advances in cooperation with the construction of the important Rasht-Astara Railway and Bushehr nuclear power plant, pointing out that the movement of new fuels to the power plant is ongoing.
Putin supports Russia’s strong support for Iran’s right to enrichment of uranium, calling it an important aspect of their partnership. He expressed his hope that negotiations surrounding UN resolution 2231 will reach a favorable conclusion.
