Iran and Turkish foreign ministers Seyed Abbas Arakich and Hakan Fidan met on the sidelines of the Islamic Cooperative Organization (OIC) summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday.
Fidan told reporters that Iran is in talks with Europe regarding nuclear negotiations and is also involved in discussions with the US currently pending.
He had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, adding that he and his Iranian counterpart had the opportunity to discuss the issue and evaluate this new agenda in light of several statements from the US.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut praised Turkey’s active role as the current chairman of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) and its unwavering support for Palestinians.
The top Iranian diplomat commented on the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the OIC Foreign Minister in Jeddah during a meeting with Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.
Aragut also called for the strengthening of collective capacity in the Islamic world to counter the Islamic regime’s expansionist program and defend the Palestinian cause.
The two ministers also considered the latest developments on bilateral relations between Tehran and Ankara, highlighting strategic and continuing cooperation.
They also highlighted the importance of expanding collaboration in key areas, including trade, energy, transportation, border security and regional exchange.
Araghchi and Fidan emphasized the importance of convening the Supreme Council of Miscellaneous Relations with Iran as a practical step towards deepening bilateral relations.
They also called for continued consultations and continued regional and international cooperation based on mutual respect, good neighbors and shared interests.
