Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting chaired by President Pezeschkian on Wednesday afternoon, a government spokesperson said, “Today, Foreign Minister Abbas) Araguchi issued a report on negotiations with three European countries at the meeting, highlighting the continued contact with Europe.”
Iran and the so-called E3 – Britain, Germany, France – and also the Deputy Secretary of European Foreign Policy held a meeting in Geneva yesterday. One Iranian negotiator then said diplomacy and negotiations with Europe would continue.
The European troika is threatening to trigger a snapback mechanism to restore Iran’s UN sanctions in accordance with UN resolution 2231, which approved a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. However, Iran has argued that the European trio has no right to do so due to repeated violations of the nuclear deal known as the JCPOA. The US Donald Trump administration withdrew from the JCPOA in May 2018, followed by apathy for European participants to Iran’s dissatisfaction with the soul violations and texts of dealing. Iran took several steps out of the deal, significantly increasing the uranium enrichment of protests.
Additionally, US bombers fired Iran’s nuclear sites in June as part of an attack on the Israeli regime’s state. The Israeli regime and the United States called for a ceasefire after Iran’s catastrophic reaction to their attacks.
Currently, trio-European countries are requesting consultations on Iran’s resumes with Washington, and either have IAEA inspectors perform inspections on damaged nuclear sites or activate trigger mechanisms. However, Tehran says that E3 is essentially not entitled to trigger such a mechanism.
