“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic will defiate and condemn the safe and illegal announcements by France, Germany and the UK (E3) on the strongest possible terms,” a statement from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.
The statement responded to the news on Thursday after Britain, France and Germany handed over a letter to the UN Security Council (UNSC) that announced its decision to stimulate a snapback mechanism against Iran despite Tehran’s advance warning.
“This unfair action against the Dispute Resolution Mechanism (DRM) in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an illegal and unfair attempt to revive the cancelled resolution and is clearly in violation of Resolution 2231 (2015),” the statement added.
“As highlighted in numerous previous communications with the UN Security Council, the three European countries do not have legal or moral authority to invoke the so-called “snapback” mechanism. Therefore, their declarations have no legal effect and are not excluded,” Iran’s foreign ministry added.
