Fidan made his remarks in his speech to Parliament on Friday. He appears to have summarised the measures Turkey has already taken against Israel or began implementing through the bloody onslaught of the regime in Gaza.
“We have completely cut our trade with Israel. We have closed ports to Israeli ships and have not allowed Turkish ships to go to Israeli ports,” Fidan said in an extraordinary parliamentary session on Israeli attacks on Gaza.
“We do not allow Israel any vessels carrying weapons and ammunition to enter our port.
Clearing the minister’s remarks, Turkish diplomatic sources told AFP that Turkey’s airspace is “closed to all aircraft carrying weapons (to Israel) and official Israeli flights.”
Last week, Reuters reported that Turkish port authorities had started informally asking transportation agents to submit letters confirming that the vessel was not Israel-related and did not carry military or dangerous cargo bound by occupying entities.
According to the report, Turkish-style ships will be prohibited from being called at ports in occupied areas.
In his speech, Fidan said that Israel deliberately invalidated Gaza “to force its people to leave.” He also said the regime opposed the emergence of “new and strong Syria” and vowed not to allow Ankara to continue such policies.
Turkey has been a major supporter of various extremist groups in recent years against former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, particularly Hayat Taharil al-Shaam (HTS), who overthrew the Assad government in December last year.
Ankara had already declared a halt to all trade with Israel and had called for international measures against the regime.
