According to Israeli media, the families of 10 recent settlers have been moved to a new neighborhood called “Aviad,” built near Beni Naim Junction, south of Alkalyl. The former post base is on a strategic road that links the city to other illegal settlements in the southern part of the occupied territory.
The Kiryat Arba Council openly acknowledged that the goal of the project was to break the natural geographical connections between the Palestinian lands that stretch from the alkaline to the Negev Desert and further integrate the chain of settlements in the area.
Speaker Israel Blumson welcomed the move as a “historic step,” once again exposing the relentless expansion of the administration and policies of forfeiture of the Palestinians.
Under international law, all Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian territory are clearly illegal. The 4th Geneva Convention prohibits the transfer of the right to occupation from the transfer of the population to the occupying territory. Israel continues to ignore it with immunity.
The announcement coincides with a meeting of Israel’s Security Cabinet. The administration is set to promote more aggressive measures against Palestinians, including discussions in September about a formal annexation plan in the West Bank, where the state is widely condemned to recognize the Palestinian state.
