Dagalro, known as Hemetti, has been rarely seen since the start of the 28-month war with national forces in Sudan, but has been sworn in the Sudanian city of Niara, the statement said. Reuters could not independently confirm his location.
Nyara, one of Sudan’s biggest cities, located in the Darfur region, served as the de facto capital of the RSF, which appointed the Prime Minister led by Dagalro and the Presidential Council.
The city was targeted in a drone attack on Saturday.
The RSF manages most of Darfur, but is fighting hard against the Army and its allies for the city of Al-Fashir, the region’s historic capital.
It has siege hundreds of thousands of civilians there for over 500 days, forcing them to consume animal feed and survive.
UNICEF said earlier this week that more than 1,000 children were killed or plagued by air, artillery and ground attacks.
