“The joint letters between my colleagues, China and the Russian Foreign Minister, reflect a firm position that Europe’s attempts to invoke European “snapbacks” signed to Tianjin are legally unfounded and politically destructive. By declaring the null and void of the E3 movement, it was recorded that it was Europe that the party was in Europe. Rather than respecting these undeniable facts, they then chose to match illegal sanctions.
“We have also reaffirmed the fundamental principles of international law. We cannot separate rights and obligations. The state of not fulfilling one’s commitment cannot assert the benefits of a weakened agreement. The credibility of multilateral diplomacy depends on this logic. It has weakened.”
The main function of the Security Council is to act on behalf of the international community to maintain peace and security. What E3 proposes will betray this mission and turn the council into a tool of coercion rather than a guardian of global stability. The urgent task before us is to provide the necessary basis for restoring international law and successfully diplomacy based on it.
