Speaking in China during his visit, Putin claimed that Russia would one day attack Europe, Reuters reported.
In the case of Ukraine in 2022, Russia was forced and Putin said he was forced to respond to Western attempts with the help of the NATO military alliance to absorb the entire post-Soviet space given the security impact on Moscow.
“I have never opposed this regarding Ukraine’s EU membership,” Putin told Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fiko during talks with China. “When it comes to NATO, this is another matter.”
Putin said he discussed Ukraine’s safety at the August 15th summit in Alaska with US President Donald Trump.
“We have options to ensure Ukraine’s safety in the event the conflict is over,” Putin said. “And it seems like there’s an opportunity to find consensus here.”
