On Wednesday night, Araguchi emphasized that “the new cooperation will not be there until negotiations are over.”
“We will do everything we can to prevent a re-challenge of UN sanctions and demonstrate that the snapback mechanism is illegal,” added the top Iranian diplomat. Three major European powers, Britain, France and Germany, are threatening Iran by inciting a snapback mechanism to return the country’s UN sanctions. Tehran claims that the E3 movement is illegal.
Comments by the Iranian Foreign Minister appear to be in response to comments made by IAEA Head Rafael Grossi, urging Iran to quickly agree to nuclear testing.
Grossi also said the agency is looking to hold separate meetings with the country in the coming days.
Tehran has now passed a law suspending cooperation with the IAEA, providing that future inspections will require a green light from Iran’s highest national security council. Tehran and the IAEA are currently discussing how testing will proceed.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday that Iran and the IAEA have not reached an agreement on testing nuclear sites.
