Deputy Minister of Health for Research and Technology Shahin Ahoundzadeh made an announcement at the opening ceremony of the 26th Royal International Conference and the 24th Festival held at Shahid Beshti University in Tehran on Wednesday.
He compared Iran’s top position in reproductive medicine publications and citations with Turkish status.
He further stated that despite spending just 0.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) on science, it ranked third in the world in 2024 in the number of published articles in reproductive medicine, following China and the United States.
In recent years, Iranian publications have grown significantly in the field of reproductive science, Akhoundzadeh said he emphasized the continued development despite existing restrictions.
Based on a five-year review (2020-2024), officials noted that 10 Iranian researchers and 10 universities and labs are among the world’s top in reproductive biology.
