Alileza Salimi, a member of the Iranian parliament’s Speaker Committee, announced in an interview with Tehran-based Tasnim News Agency on Saturday that Iran’s actions regarding the snapback mechanism are being discussed in parliament.
He said, “Tomorrow, the National Security Committee of Parliament will present a report on the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Sarimi added: “If this National Security Committee report is presented to a public meeting of Congress, it will be reviewed as a three-part emergency plan.”
The lawmaker also said, “Members of the Guardian Council will also attend public sessions of the council, and if approved, they can approve the bill and prepare for submission (transfer it).”
He said, “This process shows that Congress and other actors are keenly pursuing measures against Western pressure, indicating that necessary decisions will be made and operated in the shortest possible time.”
Sarimi was later quoted from Khaneye Mellat of Congress’s media outlet. “We must say that the National Security Committee has not yet presented its conclusion regarding the news of the NPT withdrawal plan at tomorrow’s Congressional session.
“National Security Committee members have completed their plans in this regard, but have not yet submitted their final report.”
According to a MEHR report on August 28, the three-part move includes Iran’s withdrawal from the NPT and the so-called additional protocols. Tehran will also suspend negotiations with three countries, the US and Europe.
The motion was launched on the same day in response to movements by three European powers, in officially energizing the process of snapbacking UN sanctions against Iran within 30 days.
