Iran and the IAEA reached an agreement last night at a meeting between Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci and IAEA Director Rafael Grossi, which aimed to pave the way for the resumption of cooperation between the two parties.
“In Cairo today, Iranian Foreign Minister @araghchi has agreed to Foreign Minister @araghchi about practical modalities for resuming testing activities in Iran,” Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi announced on his X account on Tuesday.
The European troika, including the UK, France and Germany, began the process of repatriating UN sanctions against Iran, entitled “Snapback Mechanism” on August 28th.
They argued that Tehran had not stuck to its commitment based on the 2015 nuclear deal.
The resolutions returned by the snapback mechanism do not include banks or oil sanctions against Iran, and all anti-Iranian banks and oil sanctions are unilateral sanctions, such as those imposed by the US Treasury, which are still in existence.
