Iran’s parliament held an emergency session today to consider a new national agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced by Ebrahim Azitzi, head of the National Security Committee.
Speaking to Mehr, Azizi said that at the request of Congress President Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the session has been convened to comprehensively consider the deal with the IAEA. Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi will attend the meeting to provide details.
Azitzi stressed that the review will be carried out within the framework of the Parliamentary Act, which has recently been approved by the Guardian Council and has been communicated to the government, requiring a suspension of cooperation with the IAEA.
“The Congress must ensure full access to Iran’s sovereignty, the security of nuclear sites and scientists, and rights under Article 4 of the NPT, in particular uranium enrichment,” Azitzi said.
He added that if the agreement is consistent with the law of Parliament, it will be upheld, but if a violation or deviation is found, Congress will file a lawsuit under its supervisory authority.
Ajitsi reassured the public that lawmakers would not allow them to compromise on national interests, particularly in the nuclear sector.
