US Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent will meet the Chinese deputy prime minister in Madrid on Sunday for talks on the fourth round of potential to Donald Trump visit Beijing before South Korea’s APEC Forum on October 31.
The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping may not be held as a Beijing summit as originally planned, the Financial Times reports.
Due to slow progress in negotiations between the two countries on some issues, particularly trade and efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking, the meeting could instead be held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum, sources told the outlet.
Recently, two US cabinet officials (Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses) have also been involved with Chinese counterparts, promoting speculation about a potential Trump XI conference.
According to insiders, Chinese authorities have shown that even if Trump makes a last-minute decision, Chinese authorities can arrange a summit within days.
