Industry, Mines and Trade Minister Mohammad Atabak says Iran and Pakistan have set a target of increasing bilateral trade exchange to $10 billion a year.
The Iranian minister made his remarks when he hosted Pakistani Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan in Tehran on Sunday.
As Iran and Pakistan are determined to strengthen relations in the economic, political and cultural fields, it is well within reach of setting a $10 billion target for trade exchange given the economic and human potential of both countries.
He also mentioned Pakistan’s support for Iran in the face of Israeli attacks this June, saying that the historic and brotherhood between Tehran and Islamabad has always had a positive impact on the policies of the government’s good neighbors.
An Iranian official who expressed sadness over the loss of life in Pakistan’s recent floods said his country is ready to support its neighbors during difficult times.
Pakistan’s Commerce Minister and his accompanying delegation arrived in Tehran on Sunday and attended a meeting of the Joint Committee on Iran-Pakistan Cooperation.
Atabak said the meeting will address a number of issues, including an agreement on essential products that both countries have considered.
He added that if the bartering issue between Iran and Pakistan is resolved, many of Tehran and Islamabad’s objectives in developing economic relations will be realized.
He mentioned the establishment of a joint Iranian-Pakistan company with investments from central banks in both countries, and said the initiative would be a major step in bilateral relations.
