A report by Tasnim News Agency on Monday showed that Iran exported $280.7 million worth of dairy products in the three months ended June 21, an increase of 32% compared to the same period last year.
Iraq was responsible for almost 40% of dairy purchases from Iran in the June quarter, the report said, adding that Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and Russia are other major buyers.
Citing figures from the Iranian Dairy Industry Association (IDIS), the report states that dairy powder accounted for 28% of Iran’s dairy export transport over the period, with 16% Ayran and Kefir accounting for 16% of cheese.
However, the report said the grants provided by the government for animal feed imports played a major role in increasing dairy exports from Iran in the June quarter.
IDIS figures released in April showed that Iran exported more than 0.587 million tonnes, worth $948.9 million between the late November and late February.
The figures showed that dairy exports from Iran increased by 19% in volume terms and 43% in value terms compared to 11 months from February 2024.
Iran has recently introduced police in recent years to encourage food exports from the country as part of its efforts to diversify its economy from its crude oil revenues.
Figures from the Iranian Customs Office show that the country exported approximately $5.2 billion worth of agricultural products per year, up 29% from the previous year.
