Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut and his French counterpart Jean Noel Barott held a telephone conversation late Tuesday night, focusing on the escalating tensions surrounding E3, illegally causing the snapback mechanism.
Barott expressed concern about the current trajectory of tension, highlighting the importance of maintaining space for dialogue and returning to a diplomatic trajectory.
Araghchi strongly rejected the UN Security Council’s activation of so-called “snapback” mechanisms by European states, calling it lacking political or legal justification and movements that exacerbate crisis and instability.
Repeating the purely peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, the Iranian Foreign Minister recalled the recent agreement reached between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He emphasized that Iran’s Islamic Republic consistently views diplomacy as the only way to resolve international issues, including nuclear programs, and declared Iran’s preparation for a fair and balanced solution that protects mutual interests.
The two ministers also highlighted the need to review the status of bilateral relations, including consul issues, and maintain regular contacts and consultations between Tehran and Paris.
