Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi has announced that he has submitted practical and wise proposals to three European signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal aimed at avoiding unnecessary crisis.
He made comments shortly before the UN Security Council session was convened to consider triggering the so-called snapback mechanism of the 2015 agreement.
“On behalf of Iran’s Islamic Republic, I yesterday presented my E3/EU counterpart with a reasonable and practical plan to avoid unnecessary and avoidable crises in the coming days,” the Iranian head wrote in X.
“Instead of encountering involvement in the realities of this plan, Iran is currently facing excuses and complete bias, including advanced claims that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not represent the entire political establishment.”
“I am pleased that President Macron has acknowledged that the proposal I have presented is reasonable, but I also know that he and the world have full support for the entire Iranian Islamic Republic, including my country’s highest security council.”
“The reality is that the E3/EU diplomatic device is actually clearly a commissionless thing.”
“Therefore, it was time for the UN Security Council to step in and choose diplomacy over conflict. The interests were never high.”
He went on to say that Iran is already in its role.
1- Sign an agreement with the IAEA, which opens a new chapter of cooperation, in line with its national and international obligations, despite illegal bombing of protected nuclear facilities.
2- Address real concerns and present creative, fair and balanced suggestions that are mutually beneficial. Turning this idea into action is quick and resolves each bottom line and avoids a crisis.
“There’s a way forward, but Iran cannot become the only responsible actor,” Araguchi concluded.
