The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement regarding illegal attempts by three European countries to revive the termination of Security Council resolutions by misuse of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Dispute Resolution Mechanism and Resolution 2231.
The ministry said the Islamic Republic of Iran is condemning the actions of three European countries as illegal, unjust and provocative behaviour in order to misuse the JCPOA dispute resolution mechanism to revive the Security Council resolution that ended in 2015 under Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA.
UN Security Council Resolution 2231, as an inseparable part of the joint comprehensive plan of action, approved the JCPOA in its annex, confirms the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, dispels false allegations regarding the nature of Iran’s nuclear activity, and at the same time introduces strict verification measures regarding it. Under resolution 2231, all Security Council resolutions imposed on Iran from 2006 to 2009 were concluded and in September 2025 it was stipulated that Iran’s nuclear issue would be removed from the Security Council’s agenda.
The devastating attempt to revive the revoked Security Council resolution of three European countries comes when Iran’s protected nuclear facilities suffered illegal attacks by the Zionist regime and the United States, causing damage. Not only did the three European countries refuse to condemn these offensive acts, but by misusing the JCPOA’s dispute resolution mechanism, they also committed additional misconduct, the statement reads.
The statement further stated that these governments ignored the understanding reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on September 9, 2025, and ignored it despite the positive reception they received from the international community. Furthermore, they rejected Iran’s reasonable proposal. This acknowledged that they were logical themselves – because for unfounded reasons, they pursued their own excessive political ambitions from the start.
Iran’s Islamic Republic has always tried to open the path of diplomacy and involvement, but these countries, despite their claims, have not demonstrated independence and consistently follow the one-sided and illegal policies of the United States.
Iran’s Islamic Republic emphasized this.
Today’s move by three European countries at the UN Security Council session is to proceed with the process of reviving the rescinded resolution, which is illegal, unfair and provocative, and seriously undermine the ongoing diplomatic process.
The full responsibility for the outcome of this lawsuit lies in three countries, the United States and Europe, if the termination of the Security Council resolution against Iran is revived. He distorted reality and pushed forward with unfounded allegations, which oppressed some non-people members of the Security Council to cooperate with them.
Today’s action to complete the process of reviving Security Council sanctions took place without consensus, and despite the serious opposition of several councillors, it further undermines the reliability of the Security Council while striking a blow to diplomacy and non-proliferation regimes.
Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is based on the will and decisions of the Iranian people for scientific and technological advancement and development, and the Iranian state remains determined on this path. The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to respond proportionately to illegal measures while underlining its commitment to protecting its interests and rights through diplomacy.
Iran’s Islamic Republic calls on all responsible members of the international community to reject and refrain from justifying today’s illegal activities by three European countries of the Security Council.
